I think it all depends for example if your a young intelligent brother with good speaking skills and there is alack thereof in the congregation you will eventually have to open your big mouth and face disassociation or disfellowshipment if you are an older sister I don't think any elder would care.

Is there a 'third' way to leave?
by Splash inonce baptised, apart from death there are really just two ways to leave the congregation: df or da.. but notice this quote:.
"does he really desire to disassociate himself, or does he simply no longer want to associate actively with the congregation?".

HELP NEEDED for the book I'm writing!
by Terry ini'm about 90% finished on a book i started nine years ago.
it will deal with jehovah's witness policy on conscientious objectors during war time.
from the 1800's through the end of the draft in the early 1970's.. i am also giving a personal biographical account of my own introduction to the religion, process of assimilation and ministry experience.. additionally, i'm working in timelines connecting the 2nd adventist teachings with russell, rutherford and mainstream watchtower doctrines.. .

You see Terry I agree with Kepler. I don't think he was ever in the cult and I have been out long enough that I can put any vindictiveness aside and just rationally think what would appeal to the most. I am not trying to get even or prove a point. You probably have enough research and experiances for several books. I do like how you said you would break the book up into two general parts though. I would still like to purchase a copy when you get it published.

Where did Pastor Russell get his TRUTH?
by Terry inmost jehovah's witnesses are aware there once lived a man named russell and he had something to do with the early years of their religion.. but, generally, interest in the early days is almost non-existent.
after all, nobody was running around calling themselves jehovah's witnesses, so what difference does any of that really make?.
russell and the origins of jw doctrines are, as a result of this total black out of curiousity, hidden and permanently obscured.. in fact, the only time charles taze russell is discussed is because some expose' by an apostate has raised a stink.. admitedly, most anti-jw books seek to dredge up scandals, lawsuits, accusations and failed predictions swirling around russell's ministry.. in my own opinion, none of that is half as interesting as the missing part of the equation: where from did pastor russell get his truth?.

Terry information like this is something I find interesting but if you put this in a book will it have wider appeal? You write very well BTW. I am just currious what is the target demographic for your book?

DC 2013: last talk
by DeWandelaar ini was at the third day of a dc yesterday and in the last speech the brother who gave the talk said something like this in just one sentence:.
"we now understand that the faithfull slave is the governing body, not a the whole class of annointed, but the brothers in hq are the faithfull slave".
i was absolutely surprised by the fact that he just told it "straight out" and not in cryptical craptalk.

Bobcat I remember the language used in the old year books entitled "Acts of Jehovah's Witnesses in the 20th Century" I remember thinking their trying to subtally equate these witings to the book of Acts. LOL

Terry if you want your book to sell to the public in general the three things that I think need to be stressed for the widest appeal are
No.1 How the witnesses divide everybody they come in contact with by trapping them in a web of lies. Think of your own case if you had went to Vietnam you would have been DFed. I was cut off from my familly for asking questions about science. So many of the other stories on this site so many examples.
No.2 Their hatred of higher education and the wasted lives that result. There hatred of informed opposition opostates and the internet.
No.3 The intelectual dishonesty of "new light" how they rewrite doctrine and how they comfort those trapped in the rank and file.
But I suppose you are probably thinking along the same lines. Try to refrain from being too esoteric as this book won't be widely read by the witnesse themselves.

Happiness/unhappiness
by lostinthought ini was told by a family member the other day "if you want to leave jehovah, go ahead.
but don't think you'll ever be happy.
all the people i know who have left got burned by the world and they come back to the truth".

I was disfellowshipped in 1985 for asking questions of a scientific nature.
I was born into this cult. It was a tough go at first but I had youth on my side. I did lose my whole familly though. Parents, grandparents on both sides, siblings, et al. Those years were pre internet a very lonely time. It was hard to explain to my friends and especially my then girlfriend who is now my wife and her familly why my own parents would'nt come to my wedding. I think they had all heard about the witnesses but I don't know if they recognized it as a cult that divdes the familly the way they do.
Anyway I moved on and 27 years later life is pretty good all it takes is hard work. I have got two beautifull daughters with university degrees. I made sure that they did'nt grow up in a cult like this. Getting disfellowshipped, for me at least, was the best thing that ever happened. I am not a bitter apostate at all. In fact I know there are lots of older dubs out there who are trapped in this cult. I feel sorry for them. I am over 50 now I couldnt imagine waking up at this age to TATT now after spending your whole life in.
I would rather be drenched in honey and tied to a killer bee hive than go back but that might just be the mentally diseased part of my brain talking. Cults like the Catholics and the dubs are losing members especially in the developed world mostly because of the internet they just can't spin their lies lies anymore because it is so easy to chech them out.
